Freeport clinches playoff spot

‘Jackets defeat Indiana to earn berth

Brady Sullivan dropped 33 points on Indiana and Freeport claimed the final WPIAL playoff spot from Section 1-4A with a 66-58 boys basketball victory at home over the Little Indians on Friday.

The Yellowjackets (6-14, 3-7) led after every quarter, including 30-23 at halftime.

The win avenges Freeport’s 53-44 loss at Indiana in mid-January.

Moniteau 83, North Clarion 55 — The Warriors ensured their season will extend into the District 9 playoffs with this win at home.

Chason Rugg led the way with 30 points, but received stout support from David Dessicino (16 points), David Martino (12) and Andrew Zepeda (10).

Drake Irwin paced the Wolves with 20 points.

The Warriors, winners of six of their last seven games, improved to 11-9.

Beaver 69, North Catholic 61 — Jason Fredericks nailed five treys for 15 points, Max Hurray scored 18 and Jude Rottmann 10 in this road loss for the Trojans (13-7, 9-3).

Beaver’s Brady Mayo tallied a game-high 25 points.

Seneca Valley 67, New Castle 62 — Tyler Pepin (27 points) and Kai West (26) exploded for 53 combined points as the Raiders (7-15, 3-7) ended the season on a high note.

Slippery Rock 53, Hickory 40 — The Rockets (13-7) pulled away by outscoring the Hornets 17-7 in the final quarter.

Josh Book scored 23 points in the win, Anderson Franco added 12 and Levi Prementine 11.

Knoch 58, Highlands 53 — The Knights (14-7, 7-3) locked up second place in Section 1-4A with this win on the road.

Derek Lang netted 17 points and Teegan Finucan had 13.

Brayden Foster scored 26 for the Golden Rams (14-7, 6-4), but was held to six points in the second half by Knoch’s Zane Pacek.

Wrestling

Brady Pflugh and Owen Layhew won by fall and Brayden McGowan won by decision, but Knoch dropped a 54-21 decision to Shaler.

Parker Anderson received a forfeit win for the Knights (10-8).
