Butler County's great daily newspaper

Butler, a great place to live

For the last eight years, our country has been immersed in nasty partisan politics as well as countless deaths due to COVID-19 and controversies over masks and vaccines. It has resulted in a general malaise among many Americans.

My personal challenge is to experience gratitude daily by truly “seeing” our community and “engaging” with others.

I came to Butler 45 years ago for a counseling position in the Butler Area School District, so I have always viewed it from an adult perspective.

As a suburban Pittsburgh native, I am impressed by opportunities to enjoy the outdoors at Moraine State Park, Alameda, Preston and Rails to Trails. How many small towns can boast a good hospital and VA hospital? Culturally, we are fortunate to have a symphony, Little Theatre and Maridon Museum.

Education is close to my heart, in fact the reason that I moved to Butler long ago. I have witnessed the strength of our school district working there for 28 years. Now, as a retiree, I am delighted to volunteer at Broad Street kindergarten where I witness kindness, enthusiasm, inclusivity and community daily. Our sons attended Butler and received an excellent preparation for college and their professions. And finally, we are so fortunate to have Butler County Community College, with its diverse majors and relatively debt-free education.

My hope is that we can be more thankful in 2024 four our great community and lives!
