Verna Spohn

Spohn

Verna Victoria Spohn, of Herman, passed away at her residence of 86 years on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024 — just one day before her 95th birthday.

Born Feb. 8, 1929, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Pearl Book Stewart.

Verna was a natural saleswoman with her friendly and outgoing personality. She was an Avon representative for over 60 years, as well as selling Tupperware, Rubbermaid and Sarah Coventry jewelry.

She moved to the Herman area at the age of 9. She later married “the boy next door” and started their family.

Verna was very generous with her skills, time and laughter, always thinking of others before herself. Some of the things she enjoyed were dining out, crossword puzzles, Western shows and movies, playing 500 and knitting, but most of all spending time with her family.

She was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church.

She belonged to the Christian Mothers of St. Mary’s, VFW Post 249 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 852 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by two children, Chester Spohn II and his wife, Janice, of Butler and Linda Green and her husband, Thomas, of Butler; three grandchildren, Chester Spohn III and his wife, Daphne, Lisa Foley and her husband, Richard, and Amanda Green; and five great-grandchildren, Delaney Hyde, Chester Spohn IV, Anaya Spohn, Silas Spohn and Victoria Foley.

In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Michael Spohn, whom she married Feb. 26, 1949, and who passed away March 15, 2018; one brother, Donald Stewart; and one sister, Eleanor Stewart Kennedy Jones.

Verna’s family would like to give special thanks to Deb, Colleen, Craig, Leslie, Linda, Janie, Jess, Pat and Sue for giving Verna such loving and excellent care.
