Evelyn Knox
Evelyn Mae McBride Knox, of Slippery Rock, passed away at her residence on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Slippery Rock on June 12, 1922, to Ralph Allison McBride and Margaret Eleanor Book McBride. She married Clark Wilbert “Joe” Knox on Feb. 24, 1945. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1990. She was a kindergarten teacher for 26 years in the Slippery Rock Area School District, retiring in 1984.
Evelyn was a 1939 graduate of Slippery Rock High School, and later graduated from Slippery Rock Normal School, now called Slippery Rock University, in 1943. She was a member of the Slippery Rock American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active member of Zion Baptist Church in Worth Township, Butler County, where she had been an organist, pianist and choir director. She was a former member of the board of directors of Judson Baptist Camp, North Springfield, Pa., where she was instrumental in instituting the minicamp program. She enjoyed volunteering at the camp, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis C. Knox of Ponce Inlet, Fla., David L. (Karyn) Knox of Woodbury, N.J., and Douglas J. Knox of Slippery Rock; two daughters, Diane L. (Dana) Best of Slippery Rock and Deborah K. (Rev. Dale) Regner of Darlington; sister-in-law, Joyce McBride of Indiana; special family member (like an adopted daughter), “Puddy” Doreen (Dave) Taggart of Slippery Rock; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Kathy; brothers, J. Harold McBride and Ralph B. McBride; and sister, Jean E. Quinn.
KNOX — The family of Evelyn Mae McBride Knox, who died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
Additional visitation will be at the Zion Baptist Church, 154 Currie Road, Slippery Rock, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be led by her son-in-law, the Rev. Dale Regner.
Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Zion Baptist Church, Slippery Rock, or Camp Judson, 398 Holliday Road, North Springfield, PA 16430.
