Mars athletes sign letters of intent

ADAMS TWP — Three Mars Area High School athletes have signed letters of intent to continue careers in their respective sports.

Gael Avalos, son of Jose and Julie Avalos of Mars, will continue his academic and lacrosse career at Immaculata University. He plans to major in nursing.

Connor Hartle, son of Alan and Tara Hartle of Valencia, will continue his academic and football career at California (Pa.) University. A defensive end and four-year member of the Planet football team, he plans to major in finance.

Cole Yoshioka, son of Brian and Tanya Yoshioka of Mars, will continue his academic and lacrosse career at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. He has yet to declare a major and is a four-year member of the Planets’ boys lacrosse team.

Bercurys get winner in harness racing

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Always Gonna B You, trained by Bill Bercury and owned by Renee Berrcury of Slippery Rock, scored her second straight victory Wednesday during harness racing action at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

She won a $12,100 Filly & Mare Conditioned Pace.

Elsewhere on the card, Dandy’s Starlette pulled off a 10-1 upset for trainer Nathan Bresnahan of Butler. The 5-year-old mare captured a $6,000 Conditioned Pace.
