PORTERSVILLE — A woman escaped injury after a crash near Portersville Christian School on Tuesday evening, Feb. 6.

The crash was first reported just before 5:30 p.m., when a driver — described by dispatchers as an “elderly woman” — swerved to the right and crashed through a guardrail as she was driving west along East Portersville Road. Her Cadillac SUV tumbled down a hillside and landed at a nearly 90-degree angle with all four wheels still touching the ground.

According to Portersville assistant fire Chief Todd Hinkle, the woman was momentarily blinded by the setting sun.

“There were cars coming the other way, so she kind of just drifted over and tried to stay away from the cars,” Hinkle said. “She went too far and went up on the guardrail.”

Portersville’s fire and EMS departments responded to the scene. Due to the response, traffic along the two-lane road was reduced to one lane shortly after the incident.

The woman was uninjured, and Hinkle says it took “about five minutes” to guide her back onto the road. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

“She was checked by EMS, and she’s leaving right now,” Hinkle said.

As of 6:05 p.m. Tuesday evening, the Cadillac still was at the bottom of the hill, and a towing company was called.

“M.D. Hitch is here. They had to call their big tow truck to come and get it,” Hinkle said.
