Margaret M. Bankert, 88, of Butler, passed away at home on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024.

Born Dec. 21, 1935, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late J. Joseph and Margaret M. (Rakers) Grefenstette.

Margaret was a parishioner and choir member of All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 117 and the Junior Women’s Club. She enjoyed musical theater and was involved in Butler Little Theatre for 55 years. Margaret was also a friend of the Butler Symphony. Her other hobbies were singing, acting and golfing. She cherished all the time spent sewing and playing with her great-granddaughter.

Margaret leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Majorie Manuel and her husband, Terry, Richard Braun and David Braun; her stepchildren, Kathy Kirkwood, Sherry Niedenberger and her husband, Dave, and Jennifer Iorio and her husband, Bob; her grandson, Nathan Manuel and his wife, Amber; her six stepgrandchildren; her great-granddaughter, Lumen Rae Manuel; her five stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Bankert; the father of her children, Ronald J. Braun; her brothers, Joseph and Carl Grefenstette; her sisters, Mary Hirsh, Mildred Brickner and Florence Granger; her sisters-in-law, Anne and Mary Jane Grefenstette; her brothers-in-law, John Hirsh, Bill Brickner and Dick Granger; and her stepson-in-law, Bob Kirkwood.

BANKERT — Friends of Margaret M. Bankert, who died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER OF CONNOQUENESSING TOWNSHIP, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler.

Margaret will be laid to rest at Butler County Memorial Park.
