SRU picked 6th in preseason baseball poll
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University baseball team has been picked to finish sixth in the PSAC West this spring by the league’s coaches preseason poll.
The Rock was 23-27 overall last season, 8-20 in OPSAC play. The team has 20 players returning and Jeff Messer enters his 39th year as head coach with career record of 1,095 wins, 723 losses and fie ties.
Seton Hill is picked to win the West, followed by Mercyhurst, Indiana, California, Gannon, SRU, Pitt-Johnstown and Clarion. Millersville is picked to win the PSAC East, followed by West Chester, East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg, Kutztown, Bloomsburg, Shepherd, Mansfied and Lock Haven.
Bush strikes for 30 in Lions’ hoop victory
ALTOONA — Seneca Valley graduate Mason Bush scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed five rebounds on Wednesday as the Penn State Altoona men’s basketball team defeated Pitt-Greensburg, 92-84.
Bush sank three consecutive 3-pointers in the second half to get his team back in the game.
Bercurys win big in harness racing
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Always Gonna B You, trained by Bill Bercury and owned by Renee Bercury of Slippery Rock, won Wednesday’s feature during harness racing action at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
The horse won a $12,100 Filly & Mare Conditioned Pace and now has a career bankroll of $432,993.
