Glenn Shearer
Glenn Richard “Gig” Shearer, 79, of Butler, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness, on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024.
Born Aug. 26, 1944, in Butler, he was the son of the late Merle and Marie Shearer.
He graduated from Butler High School in 1962. Following graduation, he attended night school at Penn Technical Institute of Electronics.
Glenn worked for Pullman Standard, US Tool & Die, Trinity Industries and then returned to US Tool & Die, where he was a head supervisor retiring in 2004. He also was a member of the William H. Miller Masonic Blue Lodge in Butler. Glenn loved spending his spare time flying his drones, collecting trains, working on cars with his sons and traveling with his beloved wife of 53 years. Glenn loved spending time with his grandchildren. He especially loved trips to the beach during the summer months. Glenn also had a great love for his many standard poodles.
Above and beyond all things, Glenn loved and adored his wife, Marianne (Fisher) Shearer, whom he married on July 15, 1967. There was never a moment in their marriage when you saw one without the other. “Twink,” as she was known, was the light of his life. His family finds peace in knowing they are rejoined in heaven.
Surviving are his sons, Brian (Jill) Shearer of Butler and Ryan (Melissa) Shearer of West Sunbury; and four grandchildren, Nicolas, Noah, Evan and Gabrielle. Also surviving are his brother, Jack (Diane) Shearer of Richmond, Va.; a sister-in-law, Eileen Shearer of Sarver; and several nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Marie; his brother, Merle Shearer Jr.; and his wife, Marianne.
