Landfill would damage charming town

A local resident group, Citizens Environmental Association of the Slippery Rock Area, has continued efforts to stop the landfill reopening and acceptance of radioactive drilling frac-fluid waste by Tri-County Industries in Grove City.

It's hard to fully comprehend how this landfill reopening and acceptance of toxic drilling waste would affect the greater Grove City area — from aspects of drastically increased truck traffic, noise, smell, tributary and underlying aquifer contamination, and birds. The aircraft bird strike at the Grove City Municipal Airport earlier this summer as an airplane flew over the existing landfill seems to be a portend of things to come, and a warning that past landfill violations are a very real indication of future expectations if these same operators are permitted to expand their operations in our community.

Grove City has become a desirable destination community that is well known for its nationally-acclaimed college, a huge outlet store collection, a myriad unique local eateries and entertainment establishments, an exotic animal and wildlife park and landscape and scenic beauty that is second to none in the state.

A sprawling and towering landfill in this same community would surely become a more common descriptor than these other attributes instead — the city with the landfill.

CEASRA will continue their efforts to help fund this costly battle. For more information, visit www.CEASRAPA.com or follow on Facebook at “No Trash Mountain.”
