Butler Area Sewer Authority holding regular operations
Business is continuing as usual at the Butler Area Sewer Authority, where the board of directors voted to look for a gas supply services contract for the year on Tuesday morning, Jan. 9.
Duane McKee, executive director of BASA, said the board would still have continued operations if the authority’s sale to Pennsylvania American Water did close in late December as initially planned. The $230 million sale still has no definitive closure date.
The board also tabled a motion to purchase electricity services in online auction, which McKee said could be left open until the authority knows when the sale closing date will be.
The current natural gas contract expires in April, and the electrical service contract expires in December, according to McKee. The authority is auctioning one-, two-, three- and four-year contracts, McKee added.
“What I lay out for the board is that we consider moving forward with the natural gas auction, so we can get a price fixed at the low point it’s at,” McKee said Tuesday, “and hold, table the electric auction to a later date, until we know when closing is, perhaps.”
Members of the BASA board also agreed in December that board meetings will continue to take place at the BASA office at 100 Litman Road, but the location could change to the Butler Township municipal building, if a sale closing date is announced.
“Once the sale takes place, the plan was to re-advertise the location to the township building, and the board will meet there,” McKee said.
