18. Elevate your space
Adding spice to your space is possible in 2024, if only you train your eye, according to Kayla Campbell, who is a graphic designer by trade and an instructor at Abstract Studio on Main Street in Butler.
If you’re looking to update a room in your home, Campbell said you don’t have to commit to a whole renovation.
“I would say start with what you’re interested in,” she said of finding unique pieces. “I’m into photography, so I have a vintage Kodak print. If you gear toward things that interest you, you’re more likely to keep them up.”
Some of her favorite places to look for art and décor are local craft shows, antique stores and online.
“I always like to buy from local artists, because you’re putting art back into the community. And you’re more likely to have a unique piece,” she said.
Campbell said she often makes furniture and décor her own, working with inexpensive materials to create something that looks new.
“I try to recreate stuff as best I can,” she said, referencing a table she owns. After receiving the table for free, Campbell redid it to her liking.
“It doesn’t have to be expensive. I just used paint and a sander,” she said.
When searching for ideas or tutorials on how to accomplish a furniture update, Campbell said she turns to Pinterest and YouTube.
