Woman charged after allegedly clogging drains, flooding Oakland Township residence
A woman accused of purposefully flooding a rental property in Oakland Township is now facing charges related to the November incident.
Rebecca J. Hamilton, 40, of Mechanicsburg, was charged with felony criminal mischief Dec. 28 after police said she clogged all the drains and left the water running in a Center Drive home.
Charging documents indicated the property owner called police Nov. 19 to report the damages and said Hamilton had been seen moving out of the residence a day prior.
The damage to Hamilton’s residence was found by another tenant who discovered he had no water in his apartment, police said. The properties use well water, documents show, and the landlord advised the tenant to see if other apartments were having problems.
The tenant said he went to Hamilton’s former residence and found water everywhere, police said.
Multiple sinks and a bathtub were found running and plugged with rags, police said, and water was overflowing through the floor. Several holes were also found in the walls of the residence, some 3 to 4 inches in diameter, documents showed.
Police estimated the damage to be $5,300, but said the amount could increase if additional repairs are needed.
Hamilton’s preliminary hearing is scheduled Jan. 9.
