State police Troop D reports no fatalities from New Year’s crashes

Of the 336 crashes state police responded to during the New Year’s holiday weekend throughout the state, only 15 were in Troop D’s coverage area, according to reports released Wednesday, Jan. 3.

Troop D encompasses state police coverage in Butler, Beaver, Armstrong, Lawrence and Mercer counties. The 15 local crashes reported zero fatalities and nine injuries over the course of the three-day weekend.

There were five fatal crashes reported throughout the state, and 68 total people injured, police said.

Of the 15 crashes in Troop D, six were considered alcohol-related.

In total, troopers investigated 17 driving under the influence cases throughout the troop’s area. Across the state, troopers investigated 326 DUIs throughout the state.

There were a total of 17 arrests throughout Troop D, reports show.
