Conservatory-trained musicians visit A-C Valley School District
Students in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District were treated to a day of energetic music Dec. 18 by TAKE3.
The daylong educational residency at A-C Valley saw the trio — violinist Lindsay Deutsch, pianist Ting Li and cellist Izzy Palacpac — playing high-energy versions of pop and holiday music. The women were trained at top conservatories.
The three musicians told their stories of becoming musicians, held a “Jingle Bells” singalong and rhythm and clapping exercises, and led a session of “Name That Tune.”
A-C Valley Elementary School student Jacob Long had a special moment with the trio when he demonstrated his “perfect pitch,” which means he can correctly identify notes that he hears. He also greatly impressed the women by showcasing his singing skills.
Karen Hetrick, an A-C Valley music teacher and Junior-Senior High School band director, was grateful TAKE3 made a stop at the school district
“Our students in grades K-12 were amazed and inspired by the performances,” Hetrick said. “The students were so impressed by the ability of these fine musicians. They loved the song choices and had a wonderful time singing with the group.”
Superintendent David McDeavitt said the musical residency program was possible through a 15-year partnership between Allegheny Riverstone Center for the Arts’ ArtReach and the school district.
“These types of learning activities tie nicely into the STEAM-centered learning philosophy, and, via hands-on learning with the arts, escapes the traditional model of engagement,” McDeavitt said.
TAKE3 Trio has more than 60 stops in the U.S. during the 2023-24 season.
The A-C Valley School District spans four counties, including northeastern Butler County.
