Knoch boys smother Steel Valley

Knoch’s 20-4 advantage in the second quarter sparked the Knights to a 60-24 boys basketball victory over Steel Valley at the Deer Lakes Holiday Tournament on Thursday.

Derek Lang led Knoch’s balanced scoring with 14 points, including four treys.

Teegan Finucan added 13 points and Jackson Bauman netted 12. Zane Pacek had nine points and 7 rebounds and Vinnie DeFelice chipped in eight points off the bench.

Knoch (5-2) limited Steel Valley to just 12 points over the final three quarters.

Franklin (MA) 64, Seneca Valley 34 — At the KSA Tournament in Florida, the Raiders were outscored 43-13 in the second and third quarters.

SV (3-7) was led by Kai West’s 12 points.

Sullivan 6, O'Neill 12, Herndon 4, DiGiorgio 13, Wilson 4, Samuels 2, Olmstead 5, Benoit 3, O'Leary 15. Totals: 25 8-13 64.

SENECA VALLEY 34

Mars 71, Pensacola Catholic 34 — Ryan Ceh drained 33 points and Drew Navetta added 11 for the Planets (4-4) in this victory in Florida.

River Valley 50, Summit Academy 42 — Kristian Clayton netted 15 points in this loss for the Knights (1-3).

Girls Basketball

Brooklynn Taylor (15 points) and Naomi Venesky (13) led Karns City to a 43-40 victory over Lakeview at the latter’s holiday tournament.

Taylor was named Tournament MVP and Chloe Fritch was selected to the All-Tournament Team for the Gremlins (6-3).

Moniteau 59, Northgate 12 — Catherine Kelly helped the Warriors put out the Flames with her 19-point effort at home.

Kendall Sankey continued her superb senior season with 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Allie Pry scored eight points and Abbey Jewart added five points and four assists for Moniteau (9-1).

Greenville 55, Union/A-C Valley 27 — Kya Wetzel paced the Falcon Knights (1-6) with 18 points.

Bishop Guilfoyle 47, North Catholic 41 — The Trojanettes held the Marauders to just 11 points in the first half, but were then outscored 36-11 over the final two periods.

Alayna Rocco led North (3-4) with 16 points.

Highlands 46, Mars 36 — At the Highlands Tournament, the Planets (5-4) were doomed by a sluggish second quarter.

Cecilia Christy paced Mars with 14 points. Kate Myers scored 20 for the Golden Rams.
