Velma Reichert

Velma Jeanne Nesbitt Reichert, 90, of Portersville, passed away in her home of 67 years on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023.

She was born in Enon Valley on Nov. 26, 1933, to the late William and Frances (Gilmore) Nesbitt. Velma graduated from East Palestine High School, Ohio and attended New Castle Business School.

She was employed by Dr. Mildred Rogers, New Castle, prior to marriage to Joseph Reichert on Dec. 8, 1956. Velma was a partner with her late husband and sons in Reichert Farms. She was a homemaker and wonderful cook to a multitude of farm employees. Throughout her life, she was involved with Worth Grange, Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, Portersville Keenagers, Ladies Missionary Society and Butler County Child Evangelism and Fellowship. She was a member of the Portersville Presbyterian Church.

In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with the Keenagers group from Portersville, and traveled to Northern Ireland with family to visit the Nesbitt homestead.

She is survived by her brother, Arthur Nesbitt of Ft. Atkinson, Wis.; as well as her children, including Amy Kennedy of Slippery Rock, Carrie (Dennis) Kerr of Harmony, James (Carol) Reichert of Portersville, Roger (Sally) Reichert of Harmony and William Reichert of Portersville; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Mason of Etters, Pa., Rachel Kerr of Elizabethtown, Pa., Aaron Reichert (Natalie) Reichert of Slippery Rock, Adam (Hannah) Reichert of New Brighton and Andrew Reichert of Harmony; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; brothers, Warren and James Nesbitt; and sister Louise Whitmore.

REICHERT — Family of Velma Jeanne Nesbitt Reichert, who died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, and at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Portersville Presbyterian Church, 1297 Perry Highway, Portersville, by the Rev. Dana Opp.

Interment will be in Portersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Portersville Presbyterian Church.
