Gaiser center hosting discussion on addiction treatment
A discussion focused on addiction treatment is happening Jan. 8 at The Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center and Butler County Community College.
The event will focus on family matters and bring together clinical and medical experts. Additionally, parents and school leaders can bring attention to issues such as the early signs of addiction and the impact of mental health/family history on drug addiction.
“Whether they’re heading to college, moving away for a new job or just moving out of the family home for the first time, young adults trying to navigate their new life may sometimes experiment with things they never would have considered before,” Gaiser executive director Joseph Mahoney said. “We want parents to be able to talk to their children — no matter their age — about these issues, but they need education and resources. We are so proud to join with BC3 to get the conversation started.”
As a nonprofit substance abuse center, the Gaiser Center is recognized as the region’s longest-running addiction treatment program.
The discussion will also feature a keynote speech from addiction medicine specialist and the Gaiser Center’s medical director Dr. Thomas Brophy on the early signs of addiction as well as a question-and-answer session with parents of children in recovery along with several breakout sessions.
The event, which is open to the public, will take place at BC3 Founders Hall from 7:30 to 11 am.
