Women of St. Michael’s Guild at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Butler donated the first $200 to the “DeAngelo Fund.” The group created the fund to help the DeAngelo family, who were burned out of their home before Thanksgiving in 1970.
A fire burned the DeAngelo house at 130 Butler St., leaving the 10 members of the family to seek shelter with relatives.
Members of the women’s guild gathered donations in 1970 to help brighten the DeAngelos’ Christmas, and the women hoped to raise money through special events like dances and sales.
