Worth Township adopts balanced budget for 2024

Worth Township supervisors adopted a balanced budget for the 2024 fiscal year at their monthly meeting Dec. 5.

The 2024 budget sets both revenue and expenditures for the fiscal year at $400,820 for the “general fund” column, and $179,945 for the “state fund” column.

According to Worth Township secretary/treasurer Shari Kreutz, revenues from the state fund consist mainly of funds gathered from Pennsylvania’s liquid fuels tax, while another $5,000 comes from interest payments.

Kreutz said revenue from the state fund will be used only for public works.

“The state fund is used for fuel, salt and road maintenance. That’s it,” Kreutz said. “We don’t pay any payroll out of that. We don’t give donations out of that.”

In the general fund column, taxes make up the vast majority of the revenue sheet, accounting for $265,550 of the $400,820. Another $84,475 is listed as “carryover.”

On the “expenses” side of the budget, “public works” takes up all $179,945 of the state funds, as well as $155,182 of the general fund.

“Public works would be anything that has to do with road maintenance, fuel, stone, oil, salt, repairs of equipment, parts for equipment,” Kreutz said. “Any of that sort is public works.”

Another $158,931 of the general fund is earmarked for “general government,” which consists of payroll and pension for township staff, while $59,906 is listed as “miscellaneous expenses.”

According to Kreutz, no changes were made to the budget from the time it was proposed to the time it was adopted. The budget is available for review on Worth Township’s website, www.worthtownship.org.
