FORWARD TWP — No major changes are expected to Forward Township’s preliminary 2024 budget, following a special budget discussion meeting on Tuesday evening, Dec. 5.

The preliminary budget was advertised last month, following the board of supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14. The budget is projected to be balanced, with both revenue and expenditures calculated at $1,899,147.

While revenue is 12% greater than what was budgeted for 2023, it is 20% less than actual projected revenue for 2023, due to several unexpected grants and payments the township received this year that were not reflected in the 2023 budget.

Expenditures for 2024 are projected to be roughly 12% more than were budgeted for in 2023, largely due to new grants to emergency medical service providers as well as the addition of a new full-time public works employee.

During the special meeting Tuesday, the three-member board of supervisors all praised township manager Tom Hartwig for the work he did in assembling the budget.

“This is the finest budget process that I have experienced here in the township in the whole time I've been a supervisor,” said supervisor Mark Wilson. “It's largely because we have a full-time manager who has the time and the expertise to keep track of this.”

The final 2024 budget is expected to be voted on at the next board of supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
