Joseph Tomsey Sr.

Tomsey

Joseph C. Tomsey Sr., 99, of Butler, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023.

He was born in Butler on Feb. 17, 1924, and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Megova) Tomsey.

Joe served his country honorably and received a Purple Heart during World War II in the U.S. Army, 63rd Infantry Division. He worked at Agway for numerous decades until his retirement. During this time, he was a member of the East Butler Fire Department and the Herman Volunteer Fire Department. Joe enjoyed working outside — and especially in his beautiful garden — but he loved nothing more than being with his family and friends. He was loved, respected and will be forever missed.

Joe was the beloved husband of Joan (Steighner) Tomsey since their marriage in 1953; father of Joseph C. (Peggy) Tomsey Jr., Judith (Joe) Mohan, Jim (Karen Powers) Tomsey and Janice (Tony) Mercatell); and brother of Agnes Tomsey. He also is survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, three brothers and three sisters.
