Young county equestrians fare well at state 4-H show
Ten young equestrians from Butler County and their mounts traveled to the Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg in late October to compete in the 63rd annual Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show.
More than 600 youths from more than 50 counties qualified on the county and district levels to compete at the state competition.
Bringing home the blue ribbon were Ella Brewster in beginner English equitation and Kendall Myers in low equitation over fences, ages 14 to 18.
Those finishing in second place were Adele Hohn in hunt seat equitation on the flat, ages 12 to 14; and Mia Karenbauer in ranch riding, ages 8 to 13.
Third place winners were Kendall Myers, low working hunter horses and hunter hack horses, and Maci Boulanger in ranch riding, ages 8 to 13.
All class champions received a blue ribbon and custom Wendell August Force pewter plate, as well as embroidered champion jackets.
Other riders who brought home ribbons between fourth and eighth places were Justice Patterson, Jessica Cornell, Leah Karenbauer, Reed Messer, Mia Karenbauer and Kendyll Myers. Grace Burke also competed in the show.
Amy Metrick, 4-H educator at the Penn State Extension office in Butler, said Butler County has more than 30 different 4-H clubs with more than 330 members.
In addition to animal clubs, 4-H clubs in the county include those related to sewing, baking, environmental science and robotics.
