Winfield Township expects surplus in 2024 budget

Winfield Township expects to run a surplus of more than $225,000 next year, according to its preliminary 2024 budget.

The preliminary budget was approved for advertisement at the township’s monthly supervisors meeting on Thursday, Nov. 30. It predicts total revenue will reach $925,952, against projected expenditures of $700,218.40. This would create a surplus of $225,733.60.

The vast majority of projected revenue would come from taxes, with $529,500 coming from Act 511 “Enabling Act” taxes and a another $143,700 coming from property taxes. Another $150,000 will be transferred from the township’s Municipal Liquid Fuels Program funds.

The total revenue figure does not include $48,048 of “projected carry over.”

Under expenditures, the largest item is public works, which totals $348,054. Included in that is $154,279 in wages for road workers, $71,000 for snow removal materials, and $40,000 for storm drain materials.

The next Winfield Township supervisors meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 28.
