Joan S. West, 93, of Grove City, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away Monday evening, Nov. 13, 2023.

Joan was born in Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, on Oct. 6, 1930, to Albert James and Margaret Hazel (Lutz) Smith. She married Richard L. “Dick” West on Dec. 29, 1951; he preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2011.

She was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School. Joan, along with her twin sister, Jean, attended Jamison School of Nursing. Together they both were registered nurses at Jamison Hospital and later at Slippery Rock University.

Joan retired at age 62, following many years of nursing at the student health center at SRU.

She was a lifetime member of Bethel Presbyterian, now Friendship Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock.

For 17 years, Joan and her husband spent the winter months in Eustis, Fla., and the summer months in Mosgrove, Pa., along the Allegheny River.

Joan enjoyed quilting, her granddogs, camping and spending time with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Sue West of Portersville; two grandchildren, Megan (Eric) Zimmers of Poland, Ohio, and David (Mary) Lind of Struthers, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, David Lind Jr. and Aubrey and Elliot Zimmers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ed Lind; a twin sister, Jean Hickok; and a brother, William Smith.

WEST — Visitation for Joan S. West, who died Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
