William Swartzlander

Swartzlander

William H. “Bill” Swartzlander, 94, of Fenelton, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at Newhaven Court at Clearview.

Born Dec. 2, 1928, in Fenelton, he was the son of the late Harry A. Swartzlander Sr. and the late Lela (Sutton) Swartzlander.

Bill was a graduate of Butler High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was a lifetime member of Fenelton United Methodist Church, where he was the oldest living member. Bill was a 32nd degree Mason with the Victory Lodge 694 in Butler. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora, the Happy Hunters Sportsman's Club in Fenelton and the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Association. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid archery hunter. He was Pennsylvania Deputy Game Warden for 20 years and also taught hunter safety courses in the community. In addition to hunting, Bill was very active with golfing and lawn bowling.

He is survived by five children, Michael W. (Beverly) Swartzlander, Elaine S. Swartzlander, Amy B. Guest and Matthew Swartzlander; his stepson, Donnie (Kathy) Codding; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Fennell; his second wife, Belva Codding; three brothers, Dale, Dick and Harry Swartzlander; his sister, Mary Louise Wilmer; his son-in-law, Michael Crytser; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; one niece; and one nephew.

SWARTZLANDER — A memorial service to honor the life of William H. “Bill” Swartzlander, who died Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made in Bill's honor to Fenelton United Methodist Church, 810 Clearfield Road, Fenelton, PA 16034.

Arrangements have been entrusted to THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
