The Seneca Valley School District reached an agreement with the police departments of Cranberry Township and Zelienople to provide school resource officers for the district’s four elementary schools.

The agreement was announced at the Seneca Valley School Board’s monthly action meeting Monday, Oct. 9.

The Cranberry Township Police Department will provide one school resource officer for each of the following schools: Haine Elementary, Rowan Elementary and Ehrman Crest Elementary/Middle schools. The Zelienople Police Department will provide an officer for Connoquenessing Valley Elementary.

Seneca Valley also maintains three school resource officers across its main campus in Jackson Township, where the middle and high schools are located. The Jackson Township Police Department provides all of these officers.

The agreements will run through the 2027-28 school year.

“(School resource officers) are trained and certified to fulfill their roles in a school setting, including providing classroom education regarding laws and crime prevention, as requested and as age appropriate,” said Linda Andreassi, district communications director. “Each contract outlines a split compensation officers will receive from their respective police agency and the school district.”
