Donald Schrecongost
Donald V. “Don” Schrecongost, 88, of Petrolia, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Nov. 5, 2023, at Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Butler.
Donald was born in Karns City, on July 9, 1935. He was the son of the late Carl and Evelyn Stroup Schrecongost. Don grew up in Karns City and enjoyed reminiscing about childhood memories.
He was a 1953 graduate of Fairview Township-Karns City High School, and was a reservist in the Army National Guard. He was a longtime member of Karns City United Methodist Church.
In his earlier years, Don had been employed at Penn Drake in Karns City and Pullman Standard in Butler. He retired following 40 years of service as a supervisor at Witco Chemical, Sonneborn, in Petrolia.
Don was an avid baseball player and in his early years was a well-known left-handed pitcher. He played baseball for Ed Gaisford’s traveling team and the Fairview Township team. He was a skilled golfer and was a longtime member of Foxburg Country Club, where he had served on the board of directors, and was in the playoffs at Highland Golf Course at the age of 87. He was a member of the Sons of Italy in Bradys Bend and a longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Chicora. Don looked forward to the company of his family and friends.
Don is survived by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Myrna D. King Schrecongost, whom he married in Kepples Corners, on June 2, 1954. Also surviving are three children, David V. Schrecongost of West Sunbury, and Stephen C. Schrecongost and Dale Lynn Schrecongost, both of Petrolia; four grandchildren, Joshua D. Schrecongost of Butler, Kiersten H. Schrecongost of Slippery Rock, Adam Schrecongost (Nikki) of Fredericksburg, Va., and Seth S. Schrecongost (Jess) of Latrobe; his great-grandchildren, Destiny, Madison Lynn, Braden Scott, Leighayla, Jordan, Devin, Paisleigh and Landen; a brother, Edward Schrecongost and his wife, Gail, of Chicora; a sister, Katherine Groux of Martins Ferry, Ohio; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, W. Dale and E. Louise Kamerer King; two brothers-in-law, Obie G. King and Donald Groux; and a nephew.
SCHRECONGOST — Friends of Donald V. “Don” Schrecongost, who died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at HILE FUNERAL HOME OF KARNS CITY, 128 Main St., Karns City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Beverly Roscoe, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Hillview Cemetery, Kepples Corners.
