Firefighters control blaze at 120 Coal St.
Time Capsule
Butler firefighters were hard pressed for about 20 minutes as a house on Coal Street burned on Nov. 2, 1971, but they eventually got the blaze under control.
Still, the unoccupied house was a total loss when all was said and done. The owners of the house called 911 when they saw the fire shortly before 7:50 p.m., and other neighbors also called the authorities when smoke blew above their heads.
Flames gushed from the second floor of the shingled two-story building, and the entire interior was gutted.
Fire Chief Fred Zorb estimated the damage to be around $2,500. The cause of the fire was still unknown by the next day, and the investigation was ongoing.
