Deborah Pettigrew
On Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, in the hours of the afternoon, Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Pettigrew, of Mars, passed away at the age of 73.
Her journey began in DuBois, where she was nurtured by her loving parents, James and Margaret Carmella. In 1971, she married William Pettigrew Jr., realizing her dream of becoming a mother. Melissa, Jeff, Molly and Matt were the center of her universe, and she embraced the role of a loving and dedicated mother. Though she worked as a teacher and speech therapist, her unwavering faith in God and devotion to her family took precedence. Whenever someone needed a prayer, Debbie was always the first person they called.
Debbie loved spending time on family vacations with her husband, children and grandchildren. She never failed to send heartfelt cards on birthdays and anniversaries, making everyone feel always feel special and loved. Her deep interest in naturopathic health and wellness showcased her intelligence, but her greatest passion was her faith. Throughout her life, she actively engaged in numerous Bible studies with lifelong friends.
She leaves behind her 97-year-old mother, Margaret Carmella; and her devoted husband of 52 years, Dr. William Pettigrew of Mars. Surviving her are her firstborn daughter Melissa, her husband David Rhen, and their children Ella and Landon, of Camp Hill, Pa. Her son Jeffrey, his wife Katie Pettigrew, and their children Izabella, Aubrey and Elisabeth reside in Mars. Daughter Molly, her husband Brian Pierct, and their children Carmella and Colestock call Myrtle Beach, S.C., home. Her son Matthew, his wife Laura Pettigrew, and their son James reside in Camp Hill. Additionally, she is survived by her older sister, Cathy Chambers; and two younger brothers, James Carmella and Brad Carmella and their families. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, sister, mother, cousin and friend and will be greatly missed by all.
