Freeport boys soccer closes season with win
Angelo Porco’s three goals sparked Freeport’s boys soccer team to a 5-0 win over St. Joseph on Tuesday.
Ben Irvine and Vinny Porco both added a goal while Judah Thompson tallied four saves in the shutout for the Yellowjackets, who finish the season with a 7-7 record.
Karns City 12, Punxsutawney 0 — The Gremlins improved to 13-4-1 on the season as Jacob Callihan, Dane King and Mason Bell each found the net twice.
Colson Ritzert, Adam Smith, Kaydin Wilson, Levi Anderson and Aidyn Adams all scored one goal.
Lathan Price, Hobie Bartoe and Smith had two assists apiece.
Lucas Yasika, Callihan, Wyatt MacKrell and Price all contributed to the shutout.
Girls Soccer
Madison Rose scored Butler’s lone goal as the Golden Tornado battled Fox Chapel to a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Monday.
Slippery Rock 4, Greenville 1 — Brielle Jordan scored two goals and added an assist for the Rockets, who secured the title of co-region champions with this victory. Emily Plyler and Izzy Vukson also scored goals in the win. Aiva Reich had an assist.
Slippery Rock shares the District 10 Region 2 title with Grove City. The Rockets close the regular season at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Titusville.
Mars 7, Obama Academy 0 — Mars closed out the regular season with a shutout win over Obama Academy on Tuesday. The Planets finished with a 14-0 regular season record, 7-0 in WPIAL 3A Section 1 play.
The WPIAL playoff brackets will be announced on Wednesday.
Freeport 4, Riverview 1 — Camryn Woods tallied two goals while teammates Peyton Los and Nia DiSanti also found the net for the Yellowjackets (13-1-1).
Karns City 5, Punxsutawney 0 — Goals were scored by Bree O'Donnell, Aubrey Price, Sarah Dodd, Ava Kamenski and Bella Shields.
Carleigh Lucas had two assists for the Gremlins (15-1-1) while Savanna Prescott earned the shutout.
Girls Volleyball
Mars dropped a 3-0 decision to Freeport on Monday, losing the match 25-18, 25-14, 25-19. Ella Nicotra had 10 kills, Lily Javor nine kills and eight digs, Emma Balazentis 11 digs for the Planets.
Freeport stats were not reported.
Slippery Rock 3, Mercer 0 — Avalee Demidovich and Molly Bissell both had 13 kills as the Rockets rolled to a 25-22, 25-8, 25-16 victory over the Mustangs.
Anora Robare had 35 assists to ignite the offense. Lillian Campbell and C.J. Sabo had three blocks apiece.
Franklin 3, Karns City 0 — Ava Fox had nine digs, six kills and two blocks for the Gremlins, who dropped this match 25-16, 25-14, 25-23. Haylie Karenbauer had five kills, Nicole Taylor six digs, Ashley Mauer nine assists, three digs and two aces, Brooke Rumbaugh five assists.
North Catholic 3, Knoch 1 — The Trojanettes remained perfect in section play with this 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-12 win.
Karlee Buterbaugh had eight kills and 10 digs, Kenzie Kurtz seven kills and Sierra Mock six kills for the Knights (12-5, 8-3).
No stats for North Catholic were provided.
Cross Country
Slippery Rock swept a meet against Sharon, the boys defeating the Tigers 27-28 and the girls prevailing 25-32.

Girls Golf
Seneca Valley senior Lihini Ranaweera tied for ninth place in the PIAA Class 3A tournament at Penn State University. She finished the two-day event with a 152 (72-80).
Rhianna Gooneratne of Plymouth Whitemarsh claimed the state crown with 140 strokes.
In Class 2A, Karns City’s Chloe Fritch tied for 24th with 173 (87-86) and Freeport’s Lillie Snow was 28th with a 179 (88-91).
North East’s Anna Swan carded a 143 to win the state title.
