SV’s Ranaweera 2nd in PIAA golf tourney
Seneca Valley’s Lihini Ranaweera carded a 72, good enough for second place, in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A girls golf tournament Monday at Penn State University.
She trails leader Rhianna Gooneratne of Plymouth Whitemarsh, who shot a 5-under-par 67.
Butler’s Hunter Swidzinski shot a 1-over par 73 to tie for 23rd in the boys 3A tourney. He is seven strokes behind co-leaders Aidan Farkas of St. Joe’s Prep and Wes Lorish of Plum, who shot 6-under-par 66.
Karns City’s Chloe Fritch shot an 87 to tie for 22nd in the girls 2A tournament while Freeport’s Lillie Snow carded an 88 tyo tie for 25th. Sasha Petrochko of Hickory leads with an even-par 72.
The state tournaments conclude Tuesday at Penn State.
Girls Soccer
Camryn Woods and Peyton Los scored three goals each on Saturday as Freeport defeated Indiana, 7-0. Samantha Liput added a goal for the Yellowjackets.
Alyssa Alcorn and Macey Edwards shared the shutout in goal.
Girls Volleyball
Sarah Szebalskie had eight kills and three digs as Butler defeated Burrell, 3-0. Match scores were 25-8, 25-12, 25-22. Molly Logan contributed five kills, 16 assists and three digs, Ashley Siglioli three kills, three aces and two digs.
The Golden Tornado close their season Tuesday night, hosting Mars.
Slippery Rock 3, Erie 0 — Anora Robare led the Rockets with 33 assists as Slippery Rock won the match 25-18, 25-20, 25-16. Avalee Demidovich had 11 kills and Adison Novad 10, while Molly Bissell contributed nine aces for Slippery Rock.
A-C Valley 3, Venango Catholic 0 — Hannah Ithen had seven kills as the Falcons (4-12) ended the season with a 25-7, 25-14, 25-14 victory. Brianna Schmidt and Bella Ielase contributed five kills each while Lexi Altman had 12 assists and eight aces.
Moniteau 3, Brockway 1 — Marissa Pry tallied six kills, four aces, four blocks and three digs for the Warriors. Match scores were 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20. Davina Pry had five kills and two blocks, Abbey Jewart 21 assists, three digs, two kills and two aces.
