Howard “Howdy” Leroy Leonard, 88, passed away at home on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, in Gilbertsville, Ky. He was born March 22, 1935, in Butler. He was the son of Howard and Gladys (Hay) Leonard.

Howard is survived by his brothers and sisters, Jean (Larry) Stanley, Al (Elaine) Leonard, Florence “Flo” (Glenn) Herold, Tom (Shannon) Leonard, Jeanne (Joe) Rassman, Jackie (Tom) Healey and Dorothy (Ted) Langa; his children, Ron (Deb) Leonard of Enchanted Oaks, Texas, Ken (Kathi) Leonard of Gilbertsville, Ky., and Lenny (Charlea) Leonard of Olive, Ky.; grandchildren, Cari (Jason) Woods, Nathan (Casey) Leonard, Krystle (Dustin) Morris, Lauren (Josh) Simons, Kyle (Dena) Leonard, Kristy (Andrew) Archuleta and Natalie (Andrew) Goodlin; and great-grandchildren, Lizzie Wood, Andy Wood, Evan Simons, Dillon Guerts, Kaleigh Simons, Levi Leonard, Sawyer Archuleta, Everly Goodlin, Micah Goodlin and Logan Archuleta.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Pearl Leonard; parents, Howard and Gladys Leonard; sister, Marion Kerlack; son, Herold “Huck” Leonard; and grandson, Andrew “Andy” Leonard.

Howdy and Pearl were full-time RVers after Howdy retired from Armco Steel mill in Butler. They traveled the countryside from coast to coast. They lived in Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, Arizona and Colorado. They were campground hosts in many of the places they lived. For the last 10 years, Howdy was the campground host of Stagecoach Station Campground in Benton, Ky., where he loved to mow the grass and talk with campers on the front porch. He was an avid baseball fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, loved the Steelers and enjoyed watching any game with his sons. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, golf, old country music, playing his guitar and spending time with his family.

LEONARD — Visitation for Howard “Howdy” Leroy Leonard, who died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, and funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, Paducah, Ky. He will be laid to rest along with his wife Pearl in Butler Memorial Cemetery Park in the spring of 2024.
