Union/A-C Valley downs Smethport

Brody Dittman passed for three scores and Owen Bish ran for two more as Union/A-C Valley put away Smethport, 51-26, Friday night. Logan Skibinski opened the scoring in the first quarter with a six-yard plunge, then Dittman found Aidan Fox for the first of their two scoring connections on the night.

Bish made it 22-0 five seconds into the second frame. Zach Cooper caught Dittman’s other aerial and Mike Yeckey punched it in late in the fourth quarter. Aaron Bashline accounted for a safety in the matchup.

Avonworth 42, North Catholic 21 — Jack Fennell scored both on the ground and via a kick return in the first half of this non-conference matchup, but the Antelopes outscored the Trojans, 28-7, the rest of the way.

Wilmington 55, Slippery Rock 20 — Doug Popovec and Eli Anderson ran for scores in the second quarter and Anderson found Cooper Glass for a passing touchdown, giving the Rockets a 20-13 halftime lead. The lead was erased before two minutes went by in the second half, though.

Boys Soccer

Nick Niebauer scored two goals and added an assist as Butler defeated North Hills, 7-2. Noah Ernst and Alex Lourens both had a goal and assist.

Drew Knight, Alfons Semmler and Mason Anderson scored a goal each for the Golden Tornado. Butler (13-2-3, 10-2-1) ended the regular season unbeaten in its last 13 games.

Girls Tennis

By a 3-2 count, Knoch downed Hampton in the WPIAL Girls Tennis Team championship semifinals Friday afternoon at North Allegheny High School. The Knights will face Sewickley Academy — a 5-0 winner over North Catholic — next Wednesday at Washington & Jefferson College.
