Leara B. Davis, 85, of Butler, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born March 7, 1938, in Grove City, she was the daughter of the late Elbert James and Julia M. (Holland) Basham. She was a lifelong member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Grove City.

Leara was a graduate of Grove City High School, Class of 1955. After graduation, she moved to New York City and worked as a secretary for several years. She also worked at Gaylords in Butler and retired from the Butler Kmart, where she was head cashier and known for her friendly demeanor and easy smile.

In her spare time, Leara loved watching soap operas and game shows. She was a big Steelers fan, and she loved keeping up with friends and family on Facebook. Above all, she was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Surviving are her three sons, Sean G. Davis of Butler, John AB Davis IV of Houston, Texas, and Duncan Davis of Butler; her daughter, Julia (Arvin) Bell of Butler; five grandchildren, Travis (Karen) Bell of Baltimore, Md., and Adam Bell of Raleigh, N.C., Kendra and Javen Stepp-Davis of New York and Makayla Stepp-Davis of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Eleanor Basham and Susan Whiteside, both of Grove City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John AB Davis III, whom she married in 1963, and they were married for 23 years until his passing in 1986; two sisters, Marcella Basham and Joan Wilson, both of Grove City; and two brothers, Lawrence and Edward Basham, both of Grove City.

DAVIS — Friends and family of Leara B. Davis, who died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, will be received from 3 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m. Thursday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
