School board spending questioned
Many “enlightened” people love being on school boards. The Slippery Rock School Board is so enlightened that it may spend $60,000,000 (including bond interest) to “deliver a 21st century curriculum” to students whose math scores have dropped 20% since 2014. The board was “too enlightened” to demand that the superintendent do a better job for students.
They prefer to be concerned about “remodeling the dining room” and providing “a more 'food court' like experience” at lunchtime and paying the architect 6% to 7% of $30 million in cash.
They either ignore their duty to actual education, or they lack the math skills to realize they may be making every man, woman and child in the district $3,000 poorer while providing no real benefit to anyone.
“Enlightened” school board members do obey the iron law of public education: “If you vote against the superintendent's budget, you will not get a friend or relative hired for a six-hour workday for six months a year that quickly turns into six figures.”
