Timothy Trockenbrot Jr.

Trockenbrot

Heaven gained an angel when Timothy Leander Trockenbrot Jr. left his earthly home, on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023.

Timothy was born in Baltimore, Md., July 21, 1933, to Timothy Sr. and Mildred (Elderkin) Trockenbrot. He was raised by his stepfather, William Clough, when he and Mildred married in 1935. He attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and from there went on to serve for four years in the Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he had several jobs while studying accounting at the University of Baltimore.

In 1955 while driving a delivery truck for Sealtest Dairy, he cut his hand on a broken milk bottle. In driving back to the plant for medical treatment, he passed out at the wheel and the truck overturned, pinning him underneath. Passersby came to his aid but were unsuccessful in lifting the truck at first.

Unfortunately, they then dropped the truck on him for a second time when they lost their grip, thereby crushing his chest, fracturing his pelvis and rupturing his liver. Due to his multiple injuries, he was hospitalized for five and a half weeks. During this time, he lost all hearing in one ear and a significant amount in the other. One particular nurse working at the hospital caught his attention, and they fell in love. He married Janet Lee Alford on May 17, 1958. They were married for 63 years before Janet’s passing on Aug. 26, 2021.

Timothy worked at several accounting firms, Ernst & Ernst, and then Ernst & Young. He entered federal government service where he then worked for the next 33 years until his retirement in 1994.

His last position was assistant deputy inspector general for audits in Health and Human Services (HHS, formerly known as HEW).

Throughout his life, Timothy served in a variety of volunteer capacities. He was the treasurer for many years at Woodbrook Baptist where he and Janet were members from 1973 to 2020, prior to moving to Harmony on March 1, 2020. He was active in scouting with his two sons for almost 20 years and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest recognition a local council can bestow upon volunteer leaders and can only be given to those nominated by others within the council.

He and Janet owned a condominium in Ocean City, Md., where he shared and passed on his love and respect for the beach and waterways. Upon the sale of that house, they then used the proceeds to rent a house in Nags Head, N.C., for years, in order to vacation with his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. Oftentimes there were 20 to 30 people staying at the house at one time. Subsequent health issues prevented him from continuing the tradition.

He had many hobbies, playing bridge with Janet and various bridge clubs, trap and skeet shooting, duck and goose hunting as well as fishing and crabbing, and he instilled the same love of those hobbies in his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved Janet; and his grandson, Jason Ross Wahl.

He is survived by four children, Timothy III (Kaye), Susan Smith, Karen (Jeffry) Wahl and Eric Trockenbrot; 13 grandchildren, Timothy Trockenbrot IV, Austin Trockenbrot, Nate Trockenbrot, Erin Wahl-Boger, Joshua Wahl, Brandon Wahl, Jennifer Wahl, Brianna Wahl, Kayla Wahl, Gregory Smith, Douglas Smith, Cate Trockenbrot and Lizzie Trockenbrot; as well as six great-grandchildren, Hadley Trockenbrot, June Boger, Easton Wahl, Emryn Wahl, Chandler Wahl and his namesake, Timothy Trockenbrot V.

He will be deeply missed by all. He was a hardworking honest man of principles, who had a fierce love and devotion to his family.

TROCKENBROT — Funeral arrangements for Timothy Leander Trockenbrot Jr., who died Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, were entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
