Butler volleyball surprises Canon-Mac, 3-1

Audrey Lehman produced 14 kills, 16 digs and four aces Thursday night as the Butler girls volleyball team stunned Canon-McMillan, 3-1. The Big Macs entered the match ranked No. 2 in the WPIAL and took only their second loss of the season.

Match scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 25-22.

Channing Popovich contributed eight kills and two blocks, Brynn Cornibe three kills, threre aces and three blocks for the Golden Tornado (7-3, 1-3), who travel to Seneca Valley on Tuesday night.

Cranberry 4, Karns City 1 — Ava Fox had 12 digs, nine kills and four blocks for the Gremlins, who dropped this match 25-19, 16-25, 25-10, 25-23. Cayley Craig had eight kills and two digs, Nicole Taylor 10 digs and two aces, Ashley Mauer 16 assists and eight digs, Brooke Rumbaugh five digs, three aces and three assists, Jaysa Capone seven digs.

Moniteau 3, Venango Catholic 0 — Abbey Jewart tallied eight aces, three kills and 12 assists to lead Moniteau. Match scores were 25-10, 25-15, 25-5.

Lily Staab contributed seven aces and three kills to the Warrior cause.

Slippery Rock 3, Franklin 0 — Senior setter Anora Robare tallied 24 assists to lead the Rockets to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-14 triumph. Molly Bissell and Avalee Demidovich had eight kills each while Lillian Campbell amassed five kills.

Demidovich added seven aces for Slippery Rock.

Clarion 3, A-C Valley 0 — Bella Ielease had five kills and 14 digs for the Falcons (3-7), who dropped this match 25-16, 25-13, 25-16. Maddy Dehart had three kills and three blocks, Lexi Altman eight assists, six digs and three aces.

A-C Valley hosts Franklin on Monday.

Boys Golf

Matt Ziembicki-Reedy earned medalist honors with a 35 as Freeport’s golf team defeated Highlands, 190-230, Thursday at Saxon Golf Course.

The Yellowjackets improved to 16-1 on the season. Stephen Evans and Cam Zigo both shot 38 while Jayden Diehl shot 39 and Lillie Snow a 40 for Freeport.

Lucas Oddis paced Highlands with a 44. Carson Goldberg shot a 45, Luke Hewitt and Tommy Callender 46, Will Singer 49.

Boys Soccer

Mason Nebel scored three goals as Knoch defeated Jeannette, 5-2. Evan Haas and Will Schwalm also scored for the Knights.

Mars 3, North Catholic 0 — Frank Knezovich led the Planet victory with a strong defensive performance.

Freeport 3, Greensburg Salem 0 — Mark Caruso, Eli Hassler, and Vinnie Porco scored for the Yellowjackets, while Xavier DeWitt had two assists and Carson Rowley one helper. Judah Thompson had a four-save shutout.

Butler 2, North Allegheny 2 — Cody Lubinsky scored for the Golden Tornado, assisted by Nick Niebauer. The host Tigers scored an “own“ goal for Butler’s other tally.

Girls Soccer

Mars broke open a close game by scoring five times in the second half for a 6-0 win over Armstrong. The Planets return to action on Monday, hosting Oakland Catholic.

Slippery Rock 3, Greenville 0 — Brooke Arblaster, Emily Plyler and Brielle Jordan all scored goals for the Rockets. Goalkeeper Libby Campbell got the shutout.

Freeport 6, Armstrong 3 — Camryn Woods scored three goals for the Yellowjackets. Samantha Liput added two and Peyton Los one.

Karns City 8, Clarion 0 — Hannah Dailey netted three goals, Bree O’Donnell two goals and an assist, Phoebe Brandon two goals for the Gremlins. Savanna Prescott got the shutout in net.

Carleigh Lucas scored a goal for KC as well. Sarah Dodd had two assists.

Girls Golf

Makenna Myler carded a 45 as Mars defeated Pine-Richland, 218-226. Allison Yanief shot a 55, Addie Nailler 57 and Addison Pangonis 61.
