Kelly, U.S. Reps introduce resolution declaring Sept. 30 as Rare Cancer Day
Co-chairs of the House Cancer Caucus, U.S. Reps. Mike Kelly, R-16th; Brian Fitzpatrick, R-1st; Derek Kilmer, D-Washington; and Brian Higgins, D-New York, introduced a resolution on Tuesday, Sept. 26 recognizing Sept. 30 as Rare Cancer Day.
Rare Cancer Day highlights the challenges patients face and promotes awareness and early diagnoses for individuals living with rare cancers. According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders, rare cancers account for 25% of all cancer deaths.
Examples of rare cancers include cholangiocarcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, myelodysplastic syndromes, ocular melanoma, fibrolamellar carcinoma, medulloblastoma, sarcomas and all pediatric cancers.
