John Anthony Bird, 93, of Marble Falls, Texas, formally of Mars, born Aug. 14, 1930, in Herminie, Pa., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

John was a loving husband and proud father of two children and three grandchildren. He lived a full life with his wife of 65 years, Helen Lawrence Bird.

John was drafted during the Korean War by the U.S. Army in 1952 and served until 1954. After the war, he began a career in sales with Pittsburgh Reflector, Tile City and Best Tile.

John and Helen spent many winters in Cape Coral, Fla., where he enjoyed golf, fishing and playing cards. Those who knew him described him as the life of the party. John was a natural leader and spent his later years as president of their independent living community.

John was preceded in death by Helen in 2021. He is survived by his children, David J. Bird and wife, Marla, of Evans City, and J. Alan Bird and wife, Maureen, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; and grandchildren, RJ Bird, Kathleen Bird and Jaclynn Bird.

BIRD — A memorial service for John Anthony Bird, who died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 4, 2023, at Allegheny County Memorial Park, 1600 Duncan Ave., Allison Park.
