Rockets top Tigers in boys soccer
Max Kovacik scored twice and added an assist in Slippery Rock’s 4-1 boys soccer win at Sharon on Tuesday.
Zach Lasko added one goal and Trent Davey another on a penalty kick.
Josh Book tallied four saves for the Rockets (7-1, 2-0).
Knoch 9, Derry 1 — Sam Caldwell had a hat trick, Mason Nebel and Austin Friedline added two markers each and Evan Haas and Duncan Schlipp had goals for the Knights (5-6, 5-2).
Butler 3, North Hills 0 — Landon Stevenson, Nick Niebauer and Noah Ernst each scored a goal for the Golden Tornado (6-2-1, 4-2).
Ryan Conaway, Jaxon Llewellyn and Thomas Sheptak each had an assist.
Drew Knight was in net for the shutout.
Golf
Freeport had five golfers advance to the WPIAL Championships through section qualifying play. Jayden Diehl and Stephen Evans carded 78 to tie for first at Buffalo Golf Course.
Cam Zigo’s 80 was good for fifth, Ethan Crooks’ 81 sixth and Matt Ziembicki’s 84 tied for ninth. The target score was 85.
Knoch’s Mason Phillips, Jeremy Scheidt, and Aaron Voltz also qualified for the event by shooting a 78, 82, and 85, respectively.
Seneca Valley 195, Pine-Richland 220 — Nick Kaufman carded a 36 for the Raiders, while Tyler Garvin had a 39. Casey Clawson, Anthony Cardosi, and Marcos Lopez had 40s.
Knoch 205, Saint Joseph 261 — No individual scores were provided for this match.
Girls Golf
Freeport’s Lillie Snow qualified for the WPIAL Individual Championships for the third successive year, carding a 92 at Fox Chapel Golf Club. The target score was 95.
The WPIAL tourney’s first round is Tuesday at Diamond Run.
Girls Tennis
Kylie Staudt, Lillie McElhinney, and Sydney Blucher had singles wins and the pairs of Anna Coon and Marlee Jones and Lily Wood and Alaina Brody doubles triumphs as Seneca Valley beat visiting Central Valley, 5-0, Tuesday. The Raiders are now 7-5 with a 3-3 record in section play.
Girls Soccer
Hanna Dailey deposited three scores and Aubrey Price put in a penalty kick to help Karns City defeat Forest Area, 4-0. Sarah Dodd had two assists and Phoebe Brandon another. Savanna Prescott had the shutout in net.
Girls Volleyball
Cecilia Christy led Mars with seven kills and four blocks while Taylor Schmitt added three kills and three aces as the Planets swept New Castle.
Knoch 3, Ambridge 0 — The Knights (7-1, 4-0) received 10 kills, 10 digs and 12 service points from Karlee Buterbaugh.
Brynne Smith added nine service points and Jess Farbacher had six kills. Olivia Crocker added five kills.
Clarion 3, Moniteau 0 — The Bobcats defeated the host Warriors by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-16.
Davina Pry had five kills and three blocks in the loss, Marissa Pry three kills and four blocks and Allie Pry eight digs.
Cross Country
In a tri-meet against North Hills and Mars, the Butler boys and girls cross country teams both came out on top. The Golden Tornado boys (4-0) had a 1-2 finish of Drew Griffith and Owen Dressler — beating North Hills (18-44) and Mars (15-50).
Butler’s girls (3-1) had a 1-2-3 finish of Ava Brewster, Makayla McLister, and Madi McGarrah — downing North Hills (17-39) and Mars (20-39).
