Agency on Aging prepares for new building space
BUTLER TWP — Butler County Area Agency on Aging administrators showed updated plans, Tuesday, Sept. 19, for the renovation of the former Butler Health and Fitness Club on North Duffy Road, where a new senior center and agency offices will be put in.
Butler Township commissioners approved plans for the 13,000-square-foot building at a meeting Monday. Beth Herold, administrator for the Butler County Area Agency on Aging, told the agency’s advisory board Tuesday that the new location would hold the agency’s offices and other amenities for senior citizens.
“The offices and then the VA offices would be in there,” Herold said. “You’ll have to swipe to get into the basement where the locker rooms are, swipe to get into the locker rooms, too, and then swipe to get into the office areas. Security is one of the one things we wanted to look at.”
Butler County purchased the property for $437,500 in December 2021 and plans to use it to replace the agency’s office at Sunnyview Circle.
Butler County commissioners ratified submission of the site plan and a $25,328 proposal to design the conversion of two racquetball courts into two pickleball courts at their meeting in August. The commissioners hired Moshier Studio of Pittsburgh to design, which is being handled as a separate project from the rest of the building renovation project.
“The pickleball court is in that, but it will be a multipurpose exercise court area,” Herold said at the advisory board meeting.
Herold also said the Butler County Area Agency on Aging’s senior centers are 100% staffed, thanks to the hiring of two new staff members.
