Freeport golf still perfect in section play
Stephen Evans carded a 42 to lead Freeport’s golf team to a 217-225 victory over Knoch on Wednesday at Butler Country Club.
The Yellowjackets improved to 13-1 overall, 12-0 in section matches. Aaron Voltz had medalist honors for Knoch with a 41.
Knoch fell to 10-3 with the loss.

Girls Volleyball
Marissa Pry had 14 kills, three aces, three digs and two assists as Moniteau defeated Karns City, 3-1. Match scores were 25-10, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19.
Abbey Jewart contributed 18 assists and three aces for the Warriors while Sydney Bayless had four kills, three aces and six blocks, Bella Hernandez two kills, two aces and five blocks.
Ava Fox led Karns City with 14 kills and 11 digs, Kendall Ritzert 14 assists and five digs, Nicole Taylor 14 digs, Ashley Maurer 11 assists, five digs and two kills, Cayley Craig six kills and three digs.
Mars 3, Ambridge 0 — Ella Nivotra led the Planets with 11 kills, Lily Javor added nine and Cecilia Christy six. Hailey Duker hade 22 assists.
Match scores were 25-14, 25-22, 25-16.
Boys Soccer
Trent Davey scored a pair of goals as Slippery Rock (6-0) remained undefeated with a 7-1 victory over Conneaut. Alex Cagle, Max Kovacik, Collin Wimer, Jack Lasko and Nick Olshanski scored single tallies for the Rockets.
Braden Callen had two assists and goalkeeper Josh Book made three saves. Slippery Rock hosts Harbor Creek at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
Mars 2, Indiana 1 — Landon Rocke scored the winning goal in overtime for the Planets.
Girls Soccer
Brooke Arblaster scored the winning goal in overtime as Slippery Rock defeated Wilmington, 4-3. Brielle Jordan, a freshman, scored two goals for the Rockets and Ella Thimons added one.
Thimons had two assists as well, Arblaster and Emily Plyler adding one each.
Burrell 3, Knoch 2 — Kam Burtner and Lauren Bowser scored goals for the Knights, but Burrell netted the game-winner with four minutes to play. Goalkeeper Hannah Klemm had nine saves in the game.
Miranda Lajevic and Emma Slusser had assists for Knoch.
Cross Country
Karns City freshman Noah Weiland won the boys face against Cranberry with a time of 18 minutes, 51 seconds. Gremlin teammate Dillon Stroup took second.
Cranberry’s Kayla Hanna won the girls race in 21:29, followed by her sister, Kelsea. Karns City’s Miley Mooney placed fourth.
Girls Tennis
Butler’s girls dropped a pair of tough singles matches Wednesday in WPIAL section tournament play. Mars No. 1 singles player Cece Crowley defeated Golden Tornado #2 Laini Spohn, 10--7.
Pine-Richland No. 2 singles player Deeya Nayyer defeated Butler’s No. 1, Ali Smith, 10-6.
