Transit authority to train staff in ADA compliance

The employees of the Butler Transit Authority and its contracted staff will undergo training for the Americans with Disabilities Act in November.

The authority board of directors voted at a meeting Tuesday, Sept. 12, to pay Michael Noel $3,300 to train about 25 staff members of the Butler Transit Authority over two days.

“He’s going over the challenges, the changes and the reasonable modifications that people can request under ADA,” said John Paul, executive director of the Butler Transit Authority. “It’s all a big push on the federal end for ADA … We are trying to be as proactive as we can.”

The authority board also approved a three-year contract with Ford Business to provide cybersecurity services, which Paul said will be a step up in terms of services from the previous contract with the same company. The contract is $1,136 per month, plus $99 an hour for troubleshooting — a decrease from the current contract’s $125 per hour — and a one-time fee of $800.

“They’re going to do checks, but they are also going to monitor our emails,” Paul said. “They will monitor our incoming emails and messaging, and also send tests to the staff so that if they screw up, then we’ll know. It’s a preventive maintenance issue.”
