Butler County Sheriff Mike Slupe said his department has received a number of reports about potential scam calls telling people they owe money for missing court appointments, and other erroneous claims.

People have reported receiving calls telling them they have missed jury duty, a court date or that there is a warrant out for their arrest. Slupe said none of these calls are legitimate, and people should just hang up if the caller makes these claims.

Slupe also said some of these calls sound legitimate, and the caller may say a person’s home address or phone number. But the sheriff’s department would never make calls to people asking for money over the phone.
