Butler Burrito Man asks for support after head injury
The Butler Burrito Man is asking for the community’s support after falling and sustaining a head injury recently.
Gerry Gutierrez, who is known for delivering Mexican cuisine across Butler County, slipped and hit his head on Tuesday, Aug. 29, according to a GoFundMe page established earlier this week.
“I didn't think much about it, but started losing function in my arm and leg on the left side of my body,” Gutierrez said in a post. “My wife quickly rushed me to Butler Memorial Hospital, where the doctors found that I had a brain bleed.”
He was then taken by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian for emergency surgery to stop the bleeding.
He woke in stable condition, but has a “long journey back to my normal everyday life,” he said.
Last week, he posted to social media with an apology to his customers.
“We want to apologize to anyone who may have reached out to us this week,” he said. “We have been dealing with a few health concerns. All is currently going well, but we are currently unavailable for orders or delivery. Please be patient with us at this time.”
He anticipates needing therapy for his affected limbs and healing time for 50 stitches in his head.
“This event has already left me in the hospital for the last week and I am not sure when I will be able to return to cooking,” he said. “Sadly my bills from this emergency accident are more than I had hoped. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will help ease some of the stress of paying for these expenses as well as my everyday bills.”
