Summit Township ups hourly police rate
SUMMIT TWP — Township supervisors voted unanimously to increase the hourly pay for Saxonburg police officers, who provide coverage for the township, from $26.16 to $28.01 at a meeting Wednesday, Sept. 6.
The pay increase becomes effective immediately, supervisors said, and would help retain personnel and attract new officers. A number of officers have left the department to find better paid positions, said supervisor Richard Green.
Supervisors also discussed the possibility of upgrading the water system on Portman Road through Pennsylvania American Water at a cost of $117,000 to the township. Supervisors agreed to table the decision and look into different grants that could potentially help fund the project. They will discuss the issue further in two weeks, they said.
Additionally, supervisors motioned to send a letter to the Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department to find a time to meet before Sept. 20 to discuss response times and standard procedures.
At the end of the meeting, chairman Willie Adams reminded the public that Summit Township’s Community Day is on Saturday, Sept. 9.
“Everyone is welcome,” he said.
