The start of a new academic year at Butler County Community College wasn’t just marked by students’ return to campus, but a candlelighting ceremony officially inducting new students.

On Sept. 8, 1970, staff members of the college signed the matriculation register, which officially enrolled students into BC3, but also lit symbolic candles to start off the school year.

The Butler County Community College Student Senate participated in the lighting; college president Thomas Ten Hoeve, who was starting his tenure at the college in 1970, gave a short talk; and music was provided by the Y-Seekers.
