BC3 golf team wins season opener
LATROBE — Jonah Kozora of Butler County Community College was medalist with a 72 recently as BC3 won its first golf match of the season, defeating Westmoreland CCC, 309-329, at Glengarry Golf Club.
Cory Voltz shot a 75 for the Pioneers while Xander Downing had 78, Devin Latsko 84 and Xavier Farmer 91.
BC3’s next match is Friday at North Park.
Freeport grad Hunter Player of Week
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Freeport graduate and Washington & Jefferson College senior kicker/punter Ricky Hunter has been named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Hunter kicked a 31-yard field goal, drilled six PATs, and averaged 45 yards on punts, putting two punts inside the 5-yard line in the Presidents’ 51-0 win over Saint Vincent.
Butler grad Patterson Runner of Week
LATROBE — Butler graduate and Saint Vincent senior Tim Patterson has been named Presidents’ Athletic Conferernce Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Patterson placed third overall and was first among non-Division I runners at the St. Francis Fr. Bede Invitational with a time of 19 minutes, 25 seconds.
SRU’s Johnson nets defensive honors
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior defensive tackle Munchie Johnson has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Johnson tallied 11 tackles and two tackles for loss in The Rock’s 28-17 win over Wayne State. The 11 tackles marked a career-high.
