Police: Butler man accused of burglarizing a home for marijuana

A Butler man was accused of burglarizing a home to obtain illegal substances, according to charges filed by city police Monday, Aug. 28.

Zachary J. Detrick, 20, was charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor loitering and prowling at nighttime for an incident that occurred July 3.

Police said a resident on Liberty Street contacted police after he found a window open in his home. Officers were unable to find anyone in the residence.

Surveillance footage from a camera at the resident showed a man, later identified as Detrick, entering the home through a window.

Police said Detrick was later interviewed. Document showed he admitted to the burglary, and said he entered the home to take marijuana and televisions previously traded with the owner for marijuana.

A preliminary hearing for Detrick has not yet been scheduled, police said.
